it prevents entirely a man. frow

It makes mortgages worthiess.
It strikes the poor man dow. at
one blow and he will find 1t so, ax

Wednesday men came twenty

~miles to get guano and were told

that it coald not be sold on time.
Those who have taken mortgages

We. write these lines because
the report hasT been circulated
that we were going around beg-
ging. farmers:to sign a: petition
asking the legislature to pass no
legislation in regard to this mat-
ter and further that: a great many
of thore who signed. such. peti-
tions ;not only for us but other
| warehousemen in this State did
so in the interest and suggestion
of the warehousemen alone.

It is pnrely on this accout that
we haye written the above. In re-
gard to our. action in the matter
we have no. apology to. make to
anyone but siwply wish to say so
far as begging farmers to sign the
petition is concerned that is. abso-
lately. fal-e.. We explained the
bill to a few farmers but the most
of our petitioners offered to sign
it of their ~own volition and of
those we asked not a singie intel-
ligeot farmer refused. to sign it
and the list we sent to the legis-"
lature was.a representive one: of
not only Pitt but the adjoining
counties.
