Color slide depicting a former Rosenwald School for African Americans near Pierce's Cross Roads in Halifax County, N.C. The title of the image on the slide is "Former Negro School, near Pierce's Cross Roads." The photograph was taken in June, 1969. Rosenwald Schools were state-of-the-art schools built for African American students in the Southern United States through the joint venture of civil rights activist Booker T. Washington of the Tuskegee Institute and philanthropist Julius Rosenwald, president of Sears Roebuck.
