Steamer OLIVE at Tunis Wharf on the Chowan River in Hertford County, North Carolina. The Atlantic Coast Line Railroad station is at the left in the photograph. According to a typed note accompanying the photograph, soon after this picture was taken the steamer OLIVE was hit by a tornado and sunk below Colerain on February 16, 1903. The OLIVE was rebuilt and renamed the HERTFORD. The OLIVE/HERTFORD was owned by Albermarle Steam and Navigation Company. This photograph is a copy of a picture taken by K. R. Israel who was a station master. Date approximated.
