[Note from conservator: The indication in the collection guide that the images are from steel engravings is highly suspect. Steel plate engraving was not invented until 1792, and did not see wide use outside of printing schoolbooks or bank notes until shortly before 1820. Most likely, this would be a copper plate engraving. In addition to depicting the names of cities, tribes, and geographical features, the kingdom of Quivira, one of the mythical Seven Cities of Gold that Francisco Vasquez de Coronado searched for is seen just below the title cartouche.]
