Pension Ledger (1892) for African Americans who joined the Union Army in the New Bern, North Carolina, area during the Civil War. These were former enslaved persons who were freed when the Union Army captured New Bern, N.C. Ledger contains index. Indexed by letter groups but not alphabetized within groups. Names on inside covers and fly-leaf are not always found in the index. Check for multiple entries. The exposure of some access images from this item have been adjusted to increase readability.
