Mr. Ray Raillard, Executive Vice President
Texas Musical Drama

Box 268

Canyon, TX 79015

Dear Ray:
This note is also intended for Margaret and Patty:

For the last several years, the Paul Green Foundation has been undergoing
review by its board of trustees. As the Vice President, I've been chairing

a committee looking at areas the Foundation should support. We're looking

at human rights groups, civil rights causes and of course, outdoor historical
drama.

Today, several hours after Margaret and I talked about economic impact and
marketing, my committee had its third meeting, and Texas was one of the
major topics.

The Foundation wants to do whatever it can to help outdoor drama as a whole,
and individual theatre companies. There are a number of ways it can do that,
and one of them is to assist in audience development. Thats where you guys:
come in, because we can't think of anyone who does a more splendid job at
marketing then you. But, as Margaret pointed out to me on the phone, your
approach is somewhat different than most of the other dramas. Your direct
mail campaigns are unique, the quality of your promotional pieces, photos,
news stories, etc., are all top drawer.

Heres the point: if the Paul Green Foundation established an annual award

to support a hands-on, in depth workshop at the annual outdoor drama conference
each October, would you guys entertain the idea of receiving the first award?
It would mean flying all three of you to the annual conference (this year in
Bardstown, KY, home of The Stephen Foster Story, October 24-26, 1991), where
we would block out a significant amount of conference time during which you,

as a team, would explain your marketing philosophy, present your campaign
outline, distribute samples of your printed materials, and field questions

from workshop particpants. This would be more than the usual panel presentation.
It would last two to three hours and be considered a major element of the
conference.

The good news is that this could be entirely funded by the Paul Green Foundation
(all your expenses, plus an honorarium for Texas). And, our current thinking
is that this would be publicized as the first annual Paul Green Seminar in
Theatre Management. The idea behind this is to honor management teams who

have achieved significant success in theatre management (you), and in sharing
your philosophy and skills, help train other teams in the business.

The Foundation committee considering this idea is on the fast track, hoping to
have a formal proposal to give to the board before very long. In fact, we've
been meeting every week for some time. Our next meeting, Monday, June 3,

we would like to nail down this idea of the Annual Paul Green Seminar in
Theatre Management. If you all would be receptive to this idea, I feel

sure the committee will recommend to the board that we adopt it officially,
and consider the Texas management team to be the first recipient.

How much money are we talking about? Well, expenses for the three of you
to travel to and attend the annual conference in Bardstown. Then, we would
like to present the Heritage Foundation with an honorarium. We haven't
pinpointed an amount, but I suspect it would be in the neighboorhood of
$500, perhaps more.

So, this is short notice, and all conjecture at this point; but I would like
to call you on Monday if I may, to get your reaction. The committee meets
Monday afternoon at 4:00pm (our time). If you feel positive about this idea,
I would like to report that to the committee so that it can put an official
proposal together for the board. All I'm looking for is a general reaction
from you; no firm commitments. If you would entertain this idea, I think
the committee will more forward. If it does not feel right for you, I would
need to know that also.

Sorry for the short notice, but sometimes good ideas sneak up behind without
much warning.

Hope everyone is well. Margaret: thanks again for your call today. I am
going to revaluate our formula and also quiz Mark on what he has?~done in
