We have received your registration for the 1991 National Outdoor Drama Conference sponsored
by the Institute of Outdoor Drama and are delighted that you plan to join us in Bardstown.
Enclosed is a receipt for your registration fee.
Bardstown is located 45 miles southeast of Louisville, Kentucky (see enclosed map). Driving time
from the Louisville airport to Bardstown is approximately 45 minutes. HERTZ is offering
weekend rates to Outdoor Drama Conference delegates. Rates range from $15 for a compact to
$20 for a full-size, 4-door, with unlimited mileage. To reserve a car, call 1-800-654-2240 and refer
to meeting number 9468. Other rental car companies serving the Louisville airport include
Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, National, Thrifty, and Sears.
Upon arrival at The Holiday Inn in Bardstown, please stop by the Conference Desk to pick up
your registration folder. This will contain the full program schedule, announcements, special
information, meal tickets and a nametag. The Conference Desk will be open for check-in from
3:00-5:00pm on Thursday, October 24, and from 8:30am to noon on Friday, October 25. The first
Conference session will begin at 4:00pm on Thursday, October 24.
Company reps are encouraged to bring a large supply of souvenir programs, brochures, and other
promotional materials for distribution at the Conference.
Both the Friday morning tour of Talbott Amphitheatre and the Saturday tour of area attractions
will take place rain or shine. The Friday lunch and afternoon panel sessions scheduled in the
open-air Rotunda will be moved to the Civic Center in case of bad weather. Bus transportation
will be provided for all events in Bardstown.
Additional tickets for the Thursday night Kentucky dinner ($12.55) and the Saturday night
banquet ($15.00) should be ordered in advance. Tickets will also be available at the Conference
Desk on Thursday, October 24, from 3:00-5:00pm, and on Friday, October 25, from 8:30am until
noon. All reservations for MY OLD KENTUCKY DINNER TRAIN excursion on Friday,
October 25, must be pre-paid no later than Tuesday, October 15.

a Basic Economic Development Course
The 20th BEDC will be held at The William and Ida Friday Continuing Education Center in Chapel
Hill, February 23-28, 1992. This one-week course is designed to serve new full- or part-time
professionals and individuals contemplating entering the economic development field. It is also
appropriate for volunteers and professionals from related fields such as planning, real estate, finance,
and transportation.
Topics covered include: a systematic approach to economic development, economic and locational
trends, the industrial location process, local resources, promotion and prospecting techniques, strategic
planning, managing the economic development office, and taxation and incentives. Participation in
case studies, simulation exercises, and a tour of the nearby Research Triangle Park enhance the
classroom experience.
The course is accredited by the American Economic Development Council and endorsed by the Southern
Industrial Development Council and the Industrial Developer�?Ts Associations of North Carolina, South
Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia, and awards 3.5 continuing education units (CEUs).
a. Arts Management Institute
Developed in cooperation with the leadership of North Carolina�?Ts statewide arts agencies, the Arts
Management Institute provides professional training for staff and board members of arts and cultural
organizations. Volunteers and prospective arts administrators are also encouraged to attend.
During the week-long program, experienced arts management professionals lead sessions on
organizational mission, strategic planning, leadership, communication, minority development, public
relations, marketing, finance, and funding. Extracurricular activities include group attendance at a
performance of the American Dance Festival and self-directed field trips to local and regional cultural
institutions. Certificates of completion are awarded
The fourth annual Arts Management Institute will be held during the summer of 1992 in Chapel Hill.
