TEXAS! TO RECEIVE PAUL GREEN SEMINAR AWARD

The Paul Green Foundation (Chapel Hill, NC) has announced
the awarding of a $2500 grant which will support a unique
theatre production seminar at the National Conference on
Outdoor Drama in Bardstown, KY, October 24-27, 1991.

The award is a dual-purpose program designed to offer
dramas distinctive, high-quality, practical marketing
information and to honor an individual theatre company
which has clearly excelled in that field of theatre
production.

Selected to receive the award and deliver the Paul Green
Seminar in Theatre Production is the Texas Panhandle
Heritage Foundation, producers of TEXAS! (Canyon, TX).
"For several years, the Paul Green Foundation Board has
been looking for ways to be of service to the outdoor
dramas, and with the seminar we?Tve found a way," said
Laurence Avery, president of the Paul Green Foundation.
"It is our hope that the seminar will strengthen the
movement as a whole by helping people enhance the
financial underpinning of the plays."

The unusual two-and-a-half-hour seminar scheduled for
Saturday, October 26, will be conducted by the management
team from TEXAS! which, in many ways, has been
responsible for the remarkable attendance record of the
musical drama as it grew from 61,388 audience members in
1966 to 110,621 people in 1990 - a whopping 99% of
capacity. "Raymond Raillard, Margaret Harper and Patty
Bryant represent the best the outdoor drama movement has
ever produced," said Avery, "and we?Tre pleased to
showcase their campaign and method of operation."

Designed for the seasoned professional manager and PR
director, already well-acquainted with the basics of
audience development and promotion, the seminar will
offer an inside look at the nuts-and-bolts of the TEXAS!
marketing campaign, with emphasis on those elements of
the campaign which set it apart from the more traditional
marketing approaches used by many outdoor dramas in the
wes.

The Paul Green Foundation was established in 1982 to

encourage and promote symphonic outdoor drama, and to
further the work of the Pulitzer Prize-winning
playwright, author of The Lost Colony (Manteo, NC), and

originator of the symphonic outdoor drama genre.
