OUTDOOR DRAMAS HONOR TEXAN

Raymond Raillard, general manager and executive vice-
president of the outdoor historical drama Texas in Canyon,
TX, has been named the 1992 recipient of the Mark R. Sumner
Award for distinguished achievement in U.S. outdoor drama.
The award is the only one of its kind to recognize excellence
in outdoor drama, and was presented at the National
Conference on Outdoor Drama in El Paso, on October 24.

Under Raillard?Ts leadership, Texas has grown to become
one of the nation?Ts largest outdoor dramas, attracting more
than 100,000 audience members each summer from all the world.
Throughout his 27 year tenure, Raillard has also been
instrumental in assisting numerous communities across the
nation in their efforts to establish additional outdoor
dramas which dramatize the heritage of the nation.

The Sumner Award was established in 1990 to honor the
director emeritus of the Institute of Outdoor Drama, Mark R.
Sumner, and his lifetime contributions to the outdoor
historical drama movement.

The Institute of Outdoor Drama is an advisory and
research agency of the University of North Carolina in Chapel

Hill, and is the national clearinghouse for 92 outdoor dramas
