Dear Mr. Henson:
I was delighted to learn from Carlene Offutt of The Stephen Foster Story that you
will be able to join us for dinner and offer a few words of wisdom at the
National Outdoor Drama Conference, Saturday evening, October 26, in Bardstown.
As Carlene may have told you, we expect the conference to include producers,
directors, playwrights, composers and promoters from 20-25 states, all of whom
will be participating in workshops, panel sessions and local tours. The
highlight of the conference will be the opportunity to see first-hand the
operations of The Stephen Foster Story, long considered one of the nation??Ts
premiere outdoor dramas.
Many of the participants attending the conference will be representing dramas
located on state park property. Theirs is a unique relationship and I know they
will be pleased to meet you and to learn about the close connection your
department has with the three Kentucky outdoor dramas also located in state
parks. In fact, we have taken the liberty to refer to your remarks as "The State
Park/Outdoor Drama Connection."
We are also very fortunate to have with us at the dinner Nancy Johnson Barker and
Blake Barker, who will perform a wonderful selection of traditional Appalachian
folksongs immediately following your remarks. That being the case, I should
think your comments would best fit a 15-minute time period. Hope that suits you.
I am enclosing an in-house copy of the conference schedule to give you some idea
of the scope of the meeting. You will receive the official conference brochure
in early September.
Meanwhile, we look forward to having you with us for the banquet from 7:30pm
until 9:00pm, Saturday, October 26, at The Holiday Inn in Bardstown. If you can
break free to come over before the dinner, we would be especially pleased to have
you as our guest during a social hour from 6:30pm to 7:30pm, also in The Holiday
Inn.
Thanks again for your willingness to be with us.
