First kill

Title
First kill
Description
Print: photographic by Jessica Marie Rose for Spring 2013 in ART4250. I am interested in the relationship between experience and a place, and how these two things relate to the American culture. First Kill demonstrates my experience as a young woman within an unlikely cultural setting––the hunt. In our culture, it is uncommon for a woman to hunt, especially if she is not raised in a family that integrates hunting into their lifestyle. This was an encounter that I did not want to pass up.  This new intriguing curiosity to know what it is to hunt and kill led me to document what I was experiencing. By creating an installation of images from my adventure and reconstructing the original location with backlit photographs, I invite the viewer to be a part of my experience.
