This picture appeared in the (Greenville, NC) DAILY REFLECTOR, March 31, 1961. It shows the newly acquired Pitt County Bookmobile, purchased for $8400. Of the funds needed to buy the bookmobile, $7400 was raised from drives throughout Pitt County. Pictured left to right are Miss Elizabeth Copeland, Director of Sheppard Memorial Library, Miss Mary E. Hawkins, Bookmobile Librarian, D.H. Conley, Superintendent of Pitt County Schools and Junius H. Rose, Superintendent of Greenville City Schools. Mr. Rose was chairman of the committee that raised funds for the bookmobile and Mr. Conley was a committee member. According to a news article about the bookmobile, Miss Hawkins was " a graduate of N.C. College in Durham, holding a B.S. degree. She has completed her requirements towards a Master's degree from the same college and will receive her degree in June."
