Richard Ronald Eakin served from 1987-2001 as the fourth chancellor of East Carolina University, and the eighth chief administrative officer of the school. During Eakin’s fourteen-year tenure, ECU’s student body grew by 5,000, to 18,000 students, with incoming freshman boasting test scores at all-time highs. Eakin rightly forecast growth of student enrollment in the decade ahead at 25-27,000. He is pictured here standing in front of the Dail House, the Chancellor's Residence. Date approximated.
