Dear friend


I take my pen (document damaged) to drop you a fu lines to let (document damaged) know that I am Sum (document damaged) this morning I hope I (document damaged) git allong now but (document damaged) bowls is not well (document damaged) I have no appetite to (document damaged) I am taken lodnum and (document damaged) Spirits of terpntine[note] mixed (document damaged) evry 2 hours Mag I sent you my Shous and Socks and shirt with Mr. Paris I want you to have lether lops[note] put on my shous take the cloth of if wash has made Sole of my lether you swoop it for supper you have gut sole tel can (document damaged) to make them shous fits (document damaged) rase them well you (document damaged) those tops nuthing (document damaged) I hope those fu lines you (document damaged)

Description
Letter from Robert C. Caldwell to his wife Mag Caldwell. Robert is serving as a private in Company C., 10th Battalion, North Carolina Heavy Artillery near Wilmington, N.C. Robert writes that he is still sick with bowel trouble and has been taking laudanum and spirits of turpentine. He has sent some shoes and clothes for Mag to have repaired.
