The patient is Mamie McLawhorn Dews. The man pushing the gurney is Charles Wilkerson. Mrs. Dews was the first patient admitted to the "new" Pitt County Memorial Hospital in February of 1951, following the birth of her son, Kenneth K. Dews, Jr., born February 1, 1951 in the old Pitt General Hospital.
