Sixth anniversary
Martin Luther King's death commemorated
The following article was submitted to
Fountainhead by William Tyson in
connection with the Black Arts Festival
which is being held this week. It
commemorates the 6th anniversary of the
assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King
who was killed on April 14, 1968. This
article will be read as a prologue to black
playwright-novelist Ed Bullins' lecture
tonight at 8:30 p.m. in McGlnnis
Auditorium.
To Fountainhead:
We still experience in these last days
and time a threatening dark cloud above
our heads. This cloud symbolizes the
many years of hatred, extreme suffering
and overt murders we as a race of Blacks
as well as poor Whites find our selves
victims to daily. St. Matthew 5.5 of the
holy Bible states clearly, Blessed are the
meek for they shall inherit the
earth. Which also means we will take from
the ruling class the riches, glory, comfort,
and power they are presently enjoying. We
can tW?k GOD ALMIGHTY for this much
needed award; to whom all praises are due
forever.
As our belief in God increases He
sends before us many spokesmen to
deliver His Word so that we may grow in
truth and understanding about His
greatness.
When we visalize in our minds the
many messengers God has sent to us, Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. stands out among
the best.
April 4, 1968 Dr. King supposedly was
assassinated by James Earl Ray. Mr. Ray
either receiveo money or really thought
that Dr. King tried to destroy the little
freedom and peace we know.
Dr. King is the most cherished and
loved man poor folks can truly say they
love for his great effort to bring us out of
darkness into the light.
With the gift of understanding and love
no wonder he felt the pain of racism,
suffering and sin.
Let us continue to pay homage to a
child of God who dwelt among us for our
goodwill in the hopes that he would listen
and understand him to the point of
executing his many ideas for true
brotherhood among all people.
When we listen to our communications
network we hear and see many dedicated
brothers and sisters fighting, studying,
working and building to make Dr. King's
dream a reality.
The time is now we must seize the time
before time runs out. All humanity must
join hands for one common good, to bring
about true brotherhood.
After many more years of struggling we
may be able to look back and say Dr.
King's dream is now a reality.
Thank you and may we continue
fighting for LOVE, PEACE, and
HAPPINESS. William Tyson

Film course
For Fall Quarter 1974, the topic for
study in ENGLISH 322G (Special Studies
in Film) will be the classic age of American
film comedy, 1915-1940. The class will
study and discuss films by Mack Sennett,
Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, the Marx
Brothers, W.C. Fields, Ernst Lubitsch,
Frank Capra, Howard Hawks and many
more. Class meets Mondays and
Wednesdays2:00 to 4:00. Prerequisite:
English 211 or consent of instructor, Prof.
William Stephenson (Austin 330). For
further information see Dr. Stephenson.
Pre-registration this week.
Free Uni.
Is Greenville ready for a Free
University? Starting Friday a table will be
manned in the Union lobby where all are
invited to talk about it.
There would be no credit and no
grades. Age, experience, or education
would not matter for joining a learning
group - interest alone would be
enough. Other principles have been
suggested, such as small groups, activity
and mutual caring in groups, continuity (a
series of meetings not just one or two),
community concern and projects given
special attention, and turning people into
existing channels (like new Pitt Tech
classes) when these meet the needs.
So far eleven groups having resource
leaders are available, including bicycle
repair, Greece and U.S. foreign policy, and
criticism of local dramatic productions.
(Watch the posters) What would you like
to learn? To teach? Should we proceed in
some coordinated way to promote these
Learning Exchanges? How? Come to the
Union and rap.
Meaning?
What does a philosopher mean by
"Meaning"? Whast does a linguist mean

A special invitation is extended to all
students and to the general public.

1974. Place: Student Union 201.

what Twain said applied to the complexity
of the modern world. 'In the first place,
God made idiots. This was for
practice. Then he made school boards.
This lie is man's best and surest friend,
and it cannot perish from the earth while
Congress remains in session

There's no easy way for Charlie Nelson to become Dr. Nelson.
3)
3)
But there is a way to make it somewhat easier
Our way. The Armed Forces Health Professions
Scholarship Program. It won't soften the demands
of your professors, or those you make upon yourself
?but it may free you from those financial problems
which, understandably, can put a crimp in your
concentration.
If you qualify, our scholarship program will cover
the costs of your medical education. More, you'll
receive a good monthly allowance all through your
schooling.
But what happens after you graduate?
Then, as a health care officer in the military
branch of your choice you enter a professional
environment that is challenging, stimulating and
satisfying.
An environment which keeps you in contact with
practically all medical specialties. Which gives you
the time to observe and learn before you decide on
your specialty. Which may present the opportunity
to train in that specialty. And to practice it.
You may also find some of the most advanced
medical achievements happening right where you
work. Like at the Brooke Army Medical Center in
San Antonio, Texas, long noted for its Burn Treat-
ment Center. Or the home of Flight Medicine, the
famed Aerospace Medical Division, also in San
Antonio. Or the National Naval Medical Center in
Bethesda, Maryland, recognized worldwide for its
work in Medical Research.
And if you've read this far, you may be interested
in the details. Just send in the coupon and we'll
supply them.
