Description
A recording of North Carolina journalist Waldemar E. Debnam narrating the attack on the Japanese-held, oil-rich area of Balikpapan, Borneo by Allied troops on the morning of July 1, 1945. From the deck of a U.S. Navy vessel, Debnam describes the actions of the Allies leading up to the attack, the actions and movements of the ships around him, the soldiers on board the ships, the time of day, the sea, the weather, and the beginning of the assault on Balikpapan. As Debnam narrates the events of the attack, sounds of guns and ships firing can be heard faintly in the background. Length: 9:42.
