Description
Organization notice from Varian Corporation board member E. L. Ginzton about Jack (John Wallace) Gilpin's appointment as director of governmental affairs. Varian was founded in 1948 as Varian Associates to sell the Klystron, the first tube which could generate electromagnetic waves at microwave frequencies, and other electromagnetic equipment. In 1999, Varian's semiconductor, vacuum tube, and medical device divisions split the company to become Varian Semiconductor, Varian, Inc. and Varian Medical Systems.
