Letter from William A. Patterson to his sweetheart, Olivia Russell Hargrove, of Townesville, Granville County, North Carolina. This letter discusses the both of them recovering from recent illnesses and rumors of her possible engagement. William A. Patterson was born in Milton, Caswell County, NC, and was an equal partner in the commission merchant and grocer firm of Patterson and Hicks in Wilmington, NC. Patterson died in November of 1881, at the age of 37.
