Description
Letter to Frank Lewin from Elaine DeFrank, dated 22 July 1992. As part of the research for the music for Streets of Gold, Lewin went into communities around Southwestern Pennsylvania to talk with people about their heritage, finding examples of traditional and folk songs in Slovak, Italian, and Serbian from which he could draw inspiration. According to the letter, Elaine DeFrank's mother would be taped singing songs in her native dialect.
