Description
A letter to Frederick Douglass requesting service and pension information on a North Carolina Civil War soldier, Stephen Moore. The writer requests the information on behalf of Moore's widow, Patience Moore, of Blount Creek, North Carolina, and states Moore may have served on the sloop Granite. Frederick Douglass was a black lawyer, minister, and teacher from New Bern, N.C., who handled pension claims for blacks who served in the United States Army and Navy during the Civil War.
