Description
Contract stating agreement to lease the labor of 17 enslaved persons for one year, to Mary A. Foy, from Graham, N.C., dated 30 March 1864. The Hiring-out system allowed a hirer to temporarily lease an enslaved person from an enslaver, generating revenue for the enslaver through the labor of the enslaved people completing the work.
