Letter from David M. Carter in Washington, N.C. to Captain Thomas Sparrow in Portsmouth, N.C. Carter tells Sparrow that his Company has volunteered into the 10th Regiment to go to Virginia and asks if Sparrow is willing to trade some of his young men for some fisherman. The Civil War correspondence relates the activities of Thomas Sparrow and his Washington Grays from their formation as a volunteer company in April of 1861, until their parole from a Union prison in February, 1862. more...
