Letter from George Attmore Sparrow in Goldsboro, N.C. to his father Thomas Sparrow. George tells his father that Mr. Alfred Stanley just arrived from Washington and that he mailed some paper and letters to him in Tarboro. Mr. Stanley thinks it is possible to take Washington, NC and is waiting to speak to General Clingman about it. George tells his father that this would be a good opportunity for his company to show their valor by joining the attack. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
