Letter from George Attmore Sparrow in Okaw, Illinois to his father Thomas Sparrow. George tells his father that they received the letter saying he would arrive on August 15th, but the children are disappointed not to see him earlier. His mother and the children had fun riding down to the woods yesterday, and Aunt Caddie is enjoying her visit. George also says that Dora took ill and died. Also, his mother received the fifty dollar check and $2.50 gold piece his father sent her. From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
