Description
The eldest son of a wealthy, landowning North Carolina family, William Blount Rodman II (1862-1946) attended the University of North Carolina, managed the family farms, became active in the National Guard, and, like his father, was a prominent attorney. Rodman served as mayor of Washington (1891-1894), chairman of the N.C. Democratic Party Congressional Committee (1890-1904). As a National Guard officer he rose in rank to colonel of the First North Carolina Regiment. This is vol. 13 of a series of thirty-eight letterpress books covering the period from 1894 to 1904. These volumes contain onionskin paper copies of Rodman's outgoing correspondence. Vol. 13 - (Sept. 11-Dec. 30, 1897), concerning politics, graded schools, cotton gin, county geology--trees, State Guard.
