It has been urged that when such
dissimilarity exists, as docs between
the climates of Pitt county and the
old countries, a different style of
to put it more correct-
a different mode of cultivating
the soil ought to be pursued. And
now, want to prove that a
conception is quite erroneous. The
climate of the wherein I ac-
some knowledge of the fun-
truths of to,
but a very small extent resembles
that of your to God
that it did. There one Minis the
seasons owing to that
position fickle
beyond description; exorbitant land
rents are exacted an unhealthy
I spirit of competition ; bur.
dens exist on the laud, markets
are glutted with tins produce of for-
nations. Yet in the face of
these many other apparently
insurmountable obstacle, fanning
has reached probably to as high a
point of perfection, as anywhere in
the known world. That is a big
to use, but I am inclined to
believe that agricultural statistics
will bear out. After a years
passed in the East, in a country
but a few degrees north of the
equatorial line, my steps were bent
towards this great republic. The
above is of a too personal tone, but
it has simply been to
that the views I wish to lay
upon the all-important
subject of agriculture, are based,
not upon a derived in
any particular country or climate,
but, alter a tolerable experience, in
lands widely apart, both as regards
situation and climate.
And sir, my opinion is.
after giving the subject much con-
matter if the
tries are as tar apart as the poles
are asunder, there is but one
cal, aye and profitable system, that
can be followed the of
the soil; and where the i tiles
good husbandry are complied
with it made a financial
success.
AH agreed that the past season
has been a most abnormal one, but
when look back upon the seasons
of it seems to that the
blending of and was
almost perfect. Here one sees the
, products a semi-tropical and
temperate growing side by
side to great perfection, and the
markets of the world open for them,
here is a climate in which
operations may be conducted on
the farm almost the entire and

Building and Loan A
The is anxious
to see a Building and Loan
in Greenville.
They are great means of helping
small earners to secure a
home and we much
could be done in that direction
around There are men
here paying month rental for
in which live, who
could lake advantage the in-
held out by a Building
and Loan Association and by
out a few more dollars from
their wanes each month than

in their own house, and in a few
years have it all paid for. No
person will deny that the
property owner male's a better cit-
than the renter, because the
former has all his interests here
and feels more concerned in the
general welfare of his town. If a
man owns Ins home be of course
will look more to improving his
than if be lived in a
house belonging to another. There
are men in Greenville, who if they
have to depend upon saving out of
their small amounts until
enough t gel them

their own. On the oilier hand
there are men now tenants, who
if could get the help of a

comfortably in their own houses

We have recently examined into
the plans and workings of Build-

of indifference and lethargy soon
after the meeting has closed. Let
not such a state of affairs come to
Greenville at this time. The town
has just passed a glorious
mooting, scores of souls have been
converted, the Christians have
been edified, the churches have
been built up and strengthened,
and there is no reason why the
good work should come to an end
because- the daily services
have ceased. On the other hand
let us show the faith that is in us.
Let the spirit of Christian, unity
and love continue and
labor in the Master's vineyard.
Our daily walk should bear fruit
for Him.
There now seams to he a craze
for getting together all the old
postage stamps possible. Rome
firm in Europe, it is said, has of-
to any person who will
send them 1.000,000 old stamps.
Now. we would not go a big wager
that this house was not trying to
see how many would try such a
wild goose venture. How long
does any one suppose it would
take to count old postage
stamps, to say nothing of the

school we have in our midst. I have

justly feel proud it. It has been
under the present for
four years and daring all that time

this sort which show us conclusively
that the work done here is a very
high order.
But to call at lent ion to the teach-

of that this school
has to offer. Of Prof. Duckett I

The good that has been done
can never be told. Men
who a few weeks ago were hard sin

are trusting in God for salvation.
Animosities that existed have been
removed. The churches have been

During the meeting there were be-

here as there are many others who
will unite with the different church-

in their names membership.
Tho last day of the meeting was
the most joyous we ever saw. At
each service the house was packed
full and there was unusual interest.
The afternoon service was devoted
largely to experience testimony
from those who felt they had been
during the meeting, and many
happy, touching testimonials were
given. To hear those who a few
ago wore outbroken sinners
now telling of their love to Christ
and how gracious God had been to
them in pardoning their sins,
brought tears to many eyes. Nor
was it less joyous to hear those who
had already enlisted telling
Lord had dealt with them, brought
them safely through every trial and
tribulation and bestowed His
them. There were numerous
expressions of thanksgiving to God

were many still unmoved and he
wanted every Christian who would
pray for their conversion at

last, to stand. Instantly three-
