WEDNESDAY. DECEMBER
Enter- J it at
If. C, as second-class mail matter.
The Scotland Neck Democrat
has entered upon its eleventh
volume. The Democrat is one of
our cleverest, brightest and best
exchanges.
We are indebted to Rev-
R. Hicks, of St. Louis, editor of
Word and Works, for a copy of
for 1895. It gives
the best and most accurate
forecasts of any publication in
Notice has been given that
plication will hi, made to the
next Legislature to amend
charter of the town of Green-
ville. Several other towns are
on the to be given
This will be one of
the evils resulting from a fusion
Legislature.
J. C- L- Harris a letter to
the Washington Post outlines the
most important measures that
next Legislature will act upon
He gives the following as the
probable Change of
county government, new election
law, doing way with challenging
on day of election, using one
ticket, polls to keep open long
as their is anybody to vote, only
poll holders to be appointed who
can read read y, charters
amended, no appropriation to
the university, no appropriation
for the Guard, anew oyster
law, and amended school law.
Now the question is, can Mr.
Harris control the incoming leg-
and have such bills pass-
ed as he desires. will see in
the future. He says that
we will have fusion again in 1896
and that it will be much stronger
than it was at the last election-
This remains to be seen too, and
we are not much inclined to the
belief that Mr. Harris has pro-
powers.

Tobacco shipments from Green-

agent Moore us his present

room for handling it in

The n l s-row

there are Democrats,
Republicans and Populists.
It will be seen that North Caro-

lists in the next Congress, and
they have only half s many in
the next Congress as in this.
It seems they were defeated as
well as the Democrats.
Tho members of Congress
the North do not seem to favor
Secretary financial plan.
They say it expands the
Southern members generally
favor it and their reason for
it is that it does in some de-
increase the volume of
money. Thus it ever

what they is acceptable
to us. We need not expect any
financial legislation from the
present session of Congress. Mr.
Woodard says tho repeal of the
ten tax on banks will not
pass either. We don't look for
much favorable legislation from
the incoming so the
people had about as well make
up their minds not to fret but to
do the best they can under exist-
circumstances. The interests
of the United States are so varied
that there always will be more or
less friction in legislation
The mandamus proceedings

Ex-Congressman Ewart, and a
member of the House in
present Legislature, does not
hesitate to express upon
any public question. He has
been both by News
Observer and the Charlotte

Some things he says we presume
are not relished much by some of
the leaders. For instance, that
Mr. by no means has been
promised long term in the
Senate. He also says there will
be a spirited contest over both
the long and short term. That
the national Republicans favor
the election of two Republicans
from North Carolina. That this
is impossible- He declares
himself a candidate for of tho
places. Ho expresses the
ion that the present Legislature
will be conservative and then
mentions a few things likely to
be done which will radical
changes in existing affairs. These
interviews are interesting in their
suggestion at the present time.

was cut on his legs in two places
and his face an, I arm were badly

It seems, from the best than we
can learn, that Mess. N. J- Rouse

judgment against Mr. Leslie
Dawson for a northern creditor.
The case that was being tried be-
fore Clerk Bright was of sup-

Miss Dawson, daughter of
Mr. Levi Dawson, was a witness
in the case, and at her request
a delicacy about going to
the court her evidence was
taken in Mr. Leslie Dawson's
store. Mr. Levi Dawson and his
sons were excluded from the court
while her evidence was taken.
After she had given In her

she went out to where her father
brothers were. In a very
short time Mr. Levi Dawson came
and went towards Mr. House,
cursing him Baying he
had insulted his daughter.

it was a mistake, that the

At the In before Mayor

by Dawson's, no testimony
was taken, but Mr- Levi Dawson
made a statement to the effect
that his daughter had told him
when she came out from the ex-
that Mr. had in-

herself, and that he told her
he would then fol-

pronounced it incurable. Science has
proven catarrh to be a constitutional
