- Dare County residents have been used to interruption of traffic on highways due to storms and the like, but last week they were met with a different outage, the closing of William B. Umstead bridge. Here, Emergency Medical Services helicopter pilot C.C. Duvall and EMS member Scott Best (right) ready the aircraft in case they are needed to transport sick or injured to the Manns Harbor side of the three-mile wide Croatan Sound.
