- Description
- Department of Transportation workers put pilings in place on the Manteo side of the Croatan Sound Thursday afternoon in preparation for docking two ferries to put in use in about two weeks. Two World War II landing craft are now being used on a limited use as ferries across the sound. The bridge usually traveled by motorists was severely damaged Friday morning by a northbound barge.
