Description
This is a cased ambrotype photograph of a man believed to be James Needham Alexander of Mecklenburg County, N.C. He appears to be wearing an 1861 sack coat style of Confederate uniform. He enlisted February 1, 1862, in Company A, 11th North Carolina Infantry Regiment. After the Civil War, he lived in Lenoir County, N.C., until the last two months of his life. He died in Raleigh, N.C., on January 14, 1918, and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh. Date approximated.
