- Lucy Cherry Crisp with her bust of George Washington Carver, possibly taken in Greenville, N.C., during her association with the WPA Art Gallery. A native of Edgecombe County, N.C., Crisp met Carver in the 1930s. They corresponded for many years, and Crisp spent considerable time on a biography of Carver that was never published. Date approximated.
