On May 13th, 1960, ten thousand people gathered at the college stadium for Jenkins’ inauguration. William Clyde “Bill” Friday, President of the Consolidated University of North Carolina was the primary speaker.

I knew Jolinda Brewer (an only child) and her parents, “Pete” and Virginia Brewer. Pete was in the insurance business and Virginia worked for many years at the ladies’ clothing store, Brody’s.
