Box 1
Journal of a Cruise from Norfolk, Virginia to the Pacific Ocean in the United States' Frigate United States, Isaac Hull, Esq'r, Commander. (Vol. 1) The journal was recorded by midshipman Lawrence Penington. It is 315 pages plus blanks. Pages 316 and 317 contain plans for barrel storage on the orlop deck. On 22 August 1825 (pg.184), the ship is visited by General Simon Bolivar.

Journal of a Cruise from Norfolk, Virginia, to the Pacific Ocean in the United States' Frigate United States, Isaac Hull, Esq'r, Commander. (Vol. 2) The journal was recorded by midhsipman Lawrence Penington. It is 189 pages plus blanks and a one-page 1826 annotated officers list. On 4 January 1826 (pg.10), they witness the hauling down of the Spanish flag from the castles of Callao and the Peruvian flag is raised. The ship returns home on 22 April 1827, anchoring in Hudson River.
