Description: Photo shows entire front of house with the following standing in the foreground: (Left to Right) In front of picket fence: unidentified boy, Epenetus Hardee. Behind picket fence: Ernest Edward Hardee (son of Epenetus and Serena), Serena Nelson Hardee (wife of Epenetus). This house is thought to have been built for Allen Hardee (1802-1870) in the mid-1840s after he migrated to Greene Co., NC, from Pitt Co., NC. Allen deeded this house and farm to his son, Epenetus in 1869. A negative of this photo is at the N. C. State Archives, Raleigh (Negative Number: N.89-6-167).

By the time this photo was taken, the front porch had been updated with new turned supporting posts with sawn brackets, new handrails, turned balusters, and foot rails-all typical porch features of the Victorian period. Size: 7½" x 5". Description: Photo shows Epenetus Hardee sitting in a rocking chair with Serena Nelson Hardee standing beside him.
