Levis Allen Churchill, the son of Levis H. Churchill and Margaret G. Evans of Pitt Co., N.C., was born in 1931 and married Allie Rachel Little, the daughter of Lenard L. Little and Allie E. Allen of Pitt Co., N.C., in 1949.
The collection contains genealogical notes and some clippings and correspondence concerning Pitt County and other Eastern North Carolina families related to the donor.
Correspondence in the collection consists largely of inquiries for and replies concerning genealogical information. One letter (February 15, 1972) comments on a controversy over the cemetery at Pitt Plaza in Greenville, N.C. Clippings are generally genealogical in content and are comprised of marriage and death notices, listings of the elected officers of the Eastern North Carolina Genealogical Society, and an article on toy producer John Churchill.
The bulk of the collection is made up of genealogical notes on various Eastern North Carolina families (filed alphabetically by surname). Such notes include marriage, birth, and death dates; extracts from federal censuses; cemetery records; copies of Bible records; and abstracts from deed and will books. In some cases genealogical notes cannot be filed according to surname because several different names are mentioned on a page and thus they are filed in one general genealogical information file. In addition, photocopies of all or portions of published histories of the following families are included: Churchill, Tucker, Brown, Campbell, Frazier, Hardy, Hawks, Hearn, Jenkins, Little, and Sumrell. For a more complete list of families in the collection see the finding aids listed below.
Miscellaneous material contains a document describing a way of naming children and a "History of the Free Will Baptist Press" (ca. 1960) of Ayden, N.C.
