      Book of poetry (ca. 1867-1868) apparently in Cashman's handwriting, containing transcriptions of verse written by a variety of poets, including Edgar Allen Poe, Rev. Richard H. Barham, John Savage, Thomas Hood, Lord Macauley, Marsden. Holograph mss. 1 item. 74 sheets (50 p. used out of 148) Note: Conservation incomplete. Extremely fragile. Some pages torn. Hardbound.       Diary (15 October 1867 - January 1868) compiled by Denis Cashman containing details of his imprisonment at Millbank Prison near London and the his voyage to exile in Australia, containing entries pertaining to the Wild Goose, a newspaper edited by Cashman and published by the prisoners while on the convict ship HOUGOUMONT; also included in the diary are poems by Cashman and poems and sentiments addressed to Cashman by his fellow convicts, including Thomas McCarthy Fennell, and John Boyle O'Reilly. Holograph mss. 1 item. 34 sheets. Note: Leather-bound. Extremely fragile. Some pages torn. Use copies in #458.2.e

        Two letters (31 January 1867) enclosed in one envelope from his wife, Catherine Cashman, addressed to him at Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin, containing affectionate and family information, with the admonition "Don't forget confession." Holograph mss. 1 item. 5 sheets Note: Letters are conserved with Japanese paper as two items; envelope is not conserved. Use copy in #458.2.f

        Convict's letter (28 February 1868) on Fremantle Prison stationery, from Denis B. Cashman, Prisoner No. 9685, to "My Dearest Kate" enclosing the note book that "helped to amuse me during my long voyage" and expressing his depression "at not hearing from you for so long a time" and describing his adjustment to prison life. Holograph mss. 1 item. 2 sheets. Note: Letter is conserved with Japanese paper as a single item. Use copy in #458.2.f

        Letter (7 November 1878), from Willie B. Cashman, on College of Ottawa stationery , to his mother, bearing an engraving of his college dormitory, showing the location of his bedroom, study and dining halls; commenting on the death of Fannie McGrath, family matters, and briefly mentioning his schoolwork there; asking for newspapers containing election news and requesting a letter from his father.
