Dr. James Grover Raby graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1911, and married Adelaide Williams of Ahoskie, NC, in 1912. They established a home and Grover, a medical practice, in Leggett, NC. The Rabys moved to Tarboro, NC in the 1920s after having three sons: James, Jr, who died as a toddler; Leonard McDade Raby; and William Thomas Raby--both of whom were Citadel graduates. (Leonard became Sec/Treasurer of Tarboro's independent Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Co; Bill was a prominent Charlotte physician and chief of staff of several hospitals. Bill is survived by two sons and a daughter; Leonard had two daughters, one now deceased.)
