Biographical/historical information

John Tilley teaches courses in military history and museum studies at East Carolina University. Before joining the faculty at East Carolina University, Tilley was an assistant curator at the Mariners' Museum in Newport News, Virginia. Tilley's articles have appeared in The Nautical Research Journal and Model Shipwright.


Scope and arrangement

This collection contains an oral history recorded on cassette and a printed transcription of that interview. The interview relates to John A. Tilley's experiences as a faculty member and head of East Carolina University's public history and internship programs. Also includes his early life, family, education, historical interests, research, and the development of the public history program.
