This collection contains materials belonging to alumnus Eva Belle Outlaw, specifically photographs, printed materials, and her 1919 diploma.


Biographical/historical information

Eva Belle Outlaw was born October 11, 1896 on a farm in Duplin County near Albertson, NC. Her parents were Joseph Benjamin Outlaw and Emma Simmons Outlaw. She had four brothers and three sisters. Her early education was private. During her years at East Carolina she was a member of the girls basketball team. After graduating from ECTTS, she taught school in Pikeville, NC. The following year she taught 3rd grade at Bullock Elementary School near Sims, NC in Wilson County. In June 1923 she married Albert Nichols of Sims, NC. They had two sons, Albert Joseph Nichols and Dennis Eric Nichols. Her teaching career came to a close shortly thereafter, and she became a homemaker. She died June 14, 1956.
