Biographical/historical information

Hassell Brantley was born 1867 July 8 to Green and Rebecca (Ballentine) Brantley. In 1888, he graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He practiced medicine in Spring Hope, North Carolina, from 1893 to 1943. Brantley married Ida Westray in 1894. His son, Julian C. Brantley, graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia in 1916 and joined his father in medical practice circa 1919.


Scope and arrangement

The Hassell Brantley Papers consist mainly of his personal class notes while at Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia, which include four notebooks from 1887 and an undated notebook, as well as transcriptions of some of these notes. Also included is a list of the 1888 graduates from Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia and a photograph of individuals dissecting a cadaver.
