Biographical/historical information

John F. Minges, an executive at Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co, served as a member of the ECU Board of Trustees from 1977-1985. In the Spring of 1966, East Carolina began construction on a new coliseum, dedicated in honor of the Minges family, which had made the largest private gift to the college at that time. This new facility would host the basketball arena, physical education classrooms, a swimming pool, handball courts. The official dedication ceremony took place on January 27, 1968.

Scope and arrangement

The Jack Minges Papers include photographs, clippings, and memorabilia. The strength of this collection is found in the photographs series which documents the Minges family's relationship with Leo Jenkins and East Carolina.

The photographs range from coliseum dedication images to images of Jack Minges with his wife and Leo Jenkins.

The clippings include articles discussing Minges' generosity and philanthropy.

The memorabilia includes a football fan award dedicated to Jack Minges.
