Edward H. Brodie (Sep 28, 1948 - May 2, 2023), of Zebulon, N.C., is a former East Carolina University student and member of the East Carolinian/Fountainhead staff. He attended ECU from 1966 to 1970 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. As a student, Brodie compiled material consisting of interviews, correspondence, and research relating to the history of ECU. This research about the history of the school was used for articles in the East Carolinian/Fountainhead. He was comissioned into the Air Force in 1971. During his time in the Air Froce he served in Spokane, Washington, Thailand, and Turkey. He retired from the Air Force with a honorable discharge in 1977. From 1977 he lived in Bavaria, Germany until moving back to the United States in 1994.
The collection contains personal correspondence between Brodie and family members, as well as additional correspondence. The collection also contains articles and research for the East Carolinian/Fountainhead, and research regarding the history of ECU, such as information concerning the early years of East Carolina Teacher's Training School and highlights the sequence of events leading from the establishment of the school in 1907 to its subsequent development into a university in 1967. Also included are interviews of former students relating to student impressions of the early years and materials featuring the founders of the school. In addition, the collection contains Brodie's personal items and ephemera from his time as a student at ECU as well as from his career in the Air Force.
