Biographical/historical information

Mabel Adeline Grant was born to William and Sallie Grant of Goldsboro, North Carolina on November 11, 1897. The family had strong ties to the local community being members of the Casey's Chapel Free Will Baptists and William Grant serving as the Wayne County Sheriff for a number of years. Mabel enrolled at the East Carolina Teachers Training School in Greenville, North Carolina, the predecessor to East Carolina University, in June of 1918. On December 24, 1919, only months after finishing her school term, she was married to Benjamin William Daniels, a naval officer from Goldsboro who had served aboard the USS Nebraska in WWI. Together they would raise four children before Mabel Grant Daniels passed away on October 14, 1951.
