The Creative Learning Center provides adult day care services in Greenville North Carolina. In the mid- 1980s, the East Carolina School of medicine donated $100,000 to start a satellite center in Farmville, NC. This file contains clippings, brochures, and photographs related to the opening of the Farmville satellite center.


Biographical/historical information

The Creative Living Center in Farmville was designed to provide the opportunity for the elderly to take part in a program of services and group activities to imporve their lives and enhance their independence. The center also offered an alternative to rest home and nursing home placement. Activities at the center included music and singing, health education classes, field trips and other community involvement, mental and physical exercise, recreation programs, social and cultural events, education and craft classes, therapeutic consultation and quarterly family functions.

The center's goals were enhanced by the participation of students of Geriatrics from East Carolina University School of Medicine as well as students in Gerontology and related fields at the university. The Creative Learning Center was under the jurisdiction of the East Carolina University School of Medicine.
