Scope and arrangement
Captain Styer, a Navy junior, enlisted in the Naval Reserves in 1936 before entering the U.S. Naval Academy the following year. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the USS ROWAN at Pearl Harbor. Captain Styer concentrates on his experiences on the ROWAN and the USS MATAGORDA, and his nine war patrols as a submarine officer.
