Biographical/historical information

Rev. & Mrs. Streshley served in the Congo - Zaire as teachers and educators. Mrs. Streshley departed for Africa in 1947 and was joined there by her husband in 1955. They served there with intermittent furloughs until 1974. She returned on special assignment in 1981 for several months.


Scope and arrangement

Topics discussed include first impressions of Africa, life styles and economic conditions of the people, administration of the school system, teaching practices, Lauback method of language instruction, the coming of independence, the Congo Rebellion of 1960 and subsequent outbreaks in 1964 and 1967, witchcraft, and other aspects of life in Africa.
