  • Biographical / Historical Note
     

    Comfort was started in 1888 by William H. Gannett in Augusta, Maine. It was the first magazine in the United States to attain a circulation of over a million. The advertisements were often illustrated, and gave a glimpse at the interests and problems of the day. The magazine was produced for over forty years, ceasing production in October 1930.
