This collection consists of family records, family records digitized from a bible, and two copies (printouts) of an image taken in the mid-1940s of Joyner and Rouse family members on the front of the Rouse-Joyner House in La Grange, N.C.
Biographical/historical information
James Galloway was born in June 1819 to William and Martha Galloway. His wife, Nancy, was born between 1844-1846 to Abraham and Perlina Hardee. Both James and Nancy were born in Pitt County, NC, and had at least nine children: three daughters and six sons. James and Nancy died in 1895 and 1907 respectively and are buried in the James Galloway Family Cemetery in Grimesland, NC.
William Galloway was born in June of 1781 in Beaufort, NC, to William and Martha Galloway. He married Martha Ragan (b. 1782) in 1805. They had at least twelve children: six daughters and six sons. William died in 1845 and Martha died in 1850.
William Proctor was born to John and Susan Proctor on July 21, 1855. His wife, Lena, was born to James and Nancy Galloway was born on April 3, 1867. They had at least six children: two daughters and four sons. William died in 1926 and Lena died in 1932. They are buried together in Greenwood Cemetery in Greenville, NC.
Scope and arrangement
This collection consists of family records, family records digitized from a bible, and two copies (printouts) of an image taken in the mid-1940s of Joyner and Rouse family members on the front of the Rouse-Joyner House in La Grange, N.C. The family records of William Galloway (b. 1781) and his wife Martha (b. 1782) were removed from an 1823 bible/ The tintypes and needlework sampler were removed from an 1876 bible. The library created digital images of family records from an 1886 Bible belonging to William and Lena (Galloway) Proctor (Please note, the library does not own the pysical bible).
