Biographical/historical information
This collection contains material documenting the history of Everett's Baptist Church in Everett, Martin County, N.C. The church was originally founded in 1877 as Pine Forest Church. Later, the original building was relocated from a rural area to Everett. After this move, the church assumed the official name of Everett's Baptist Church. The current church is a brick structure that was originally built in 1926. The first mentioned preachers were two itinerant evangelists. They were identified as Carson Lennon Powell from Fair Bluff, North Carolina and A. Mica. Pittman from South Carolina.
Scope and arrangement
Loose printed materials include notes, an historic publication on the Roanoke Baptist Association and church membership records. Also present is a History of Everett's Baptist Church 1877-1974 by Helen K. Peel, the donor's mother. In addition, there is a typed copy of this publication, as well as her research notes. Also included are parsonage land deeds (1953, 1963, 1980, 1981) of which some land was used to add later church buildings. A photograph album can be found in the collection documenting church events and members during the 1950s-1980s. Another photograph album (1977-1981) concerns the church's centennial celebration held in 1977. This album includes mostly identified photographs, along with a few clippings and programs. A scrapbook (1970-1981, undated) is also present that contains correspondence, church bulletins and clippings kept by Peel while writing her publication and the years afterwards. Additional church history via Peel's writings can also be found in the scrapbook.
